More about me
I am always proud to say that I was born in the late 60's where Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia was just a peaceful small town. I don't think during my time anyone bothered to make sure the front gate was locked or even the house door was closed until and unless mosquitoes infect their bedrooms.
In 25 years, I have studied, worked and stayed in East and West Malaysia and traveled throughout Malaysia, except Kuantan and Kuala Trengganu. I am currently residing in my hometown, Kuching. Staying in Kuching is mainly for my family. At times, I do feel equally good with Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan or Tawau in Sabah. My wife always said that a fortune teller once told her that she would be married to someone who is mostly out of town (that's me) and during her old age, she will be flying around because the children will be far apart. Don't know how true that is...
I believe in life-long learning. While ICSA was challenging, I am pursuing for another challenging professional qualification -Diploma in Estate Agency! Well, if others spend money on luxury cars and fashion clothings, I would choose to spend on acquiring knowledge and new things.
So ...
On 15th of August, 2008 I embarked on a quest for something entirely different from my 15 years of medical selling profession - unknown industry to me - construction! This is a new page of my life and I am happy doing something different for a change. Of course, new job comes with new responsibilities and challenges and I hope I will keep on learning and contribute to the new organisation.
A year later, due to personal choice of better working hours and environment, I decided to return to the Medical Industry. My CEO in Roche MrV was generous enough to allow me to return to the team without losing seniority and benefits. Thus, I will focus on my medical expertise for the time being (2010) and contribute to Roche.
Only when our division - haematology (MabThera) was under pressure of biosimilar threat in recent time that the management took the decision to streamline the sales force. Thus, I was offered a redundancy package late 2017. In the beginning of 2018, I started the adventure in real estate as a full-time probationary estate agent (PEA). Indeed, I received my Part II result early February, 2018 and I have passed all Part II papers in one sitting!!!
2018 sees my life long learning in Estate Agency, Law, ICT and Marketing being put into use. Interestingly, what I have learned in marketing, ICSA, ICT Management and Estate Agency are now all-in-one assorted into my writings and E-learning website estateagentexam.com.
You can choose to study the LPPEP (BoVAEP) Estate Agent Examination with my E-Learning site above. I did the 1300 questions and answers for - Past Year 2011-2017 - examination and you can prepare for this examination just by using this online resource. As of June, 2018 there are as many as 140 people in our WhatSApp Group on study of this examination.
About my core expertise:
Titanium Management Sdn Bhd: Aug 2008 - Aug 2009
Key role: Personal Assistant to the MD and Business Development Executive
I was put into getting the new Corporate Office ready in 4 months! In a team of 4, we did Interior Design planning with the consultant architect and ID guy until the completion from Dec'08 to Apr'09. I was in-charged of sourcing and negotiating for furniture, air-conditioning distribution, fire shutter doors, security cameras (CCTV), time management systems, IT cabling and network system - including IT security and WiFi, carpets and blinds, toilet wares, decorative stickers, car park barrier gates, tempered glasses for the entrance doors and the conference/meeting rooms. In short, my job was to obtain quotations and having the adjustments thrash out on site while maintaining the renovation for New Office within a limited budget.
As the corporate building is ready for tenancy, I also took charge of its corporate office space for rent. This job is pretty interesting as I was lucky to be involved with the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) expansion plan for a new office in East Malaysia. I had the opportunity to meet people from MDeC - Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd and its consultants. Although at the time of my departure from Titanium, the expansion plan had not materialized. Nevertheless, it was this experience that I discovered my love and interest in ICT and IT security.
In fact, my core function was involved with GIS - Geographical Information System. I developed the use of Google Earth Pro in managing the Land Banks within my corporation. As a construction entity, land management is an integral part of its daily activities. Hence, my job on land management, both geographical and legal - Land Code requirements, constituted the most important part of my job. It was eye opener to follow the process of land identification, necessary surveys, the early stages of master planning, detailed planning by Town Planner and Architect for the final development plans and submission to the State Planning Authority.
The other responsibilities of being the Personal Assistant to the MD is to draft his letters and translate correspondence from Bahasa Malaysia to English Language. It was both fun and challenging to do meetings and draft minutes of meeting, which involved a lot of revisions and amendments. At times, it was also pretty mundane and repetitive.
I was also the most computer savvy person in the company, and thus most of the computer issues which needed trouble shooting came under me. All in all, I was quite a person "jack of all trade" around the office! That is how I developed my best TOM's 4 Key Rules:
- Manner
- Fairness
- Manage, and
- Discipline
This one year had seen many events that shaped my thinking. The way I manage things also changed as I see how to get across to different stakeholders - the contractors, consultants, government officials, the public and parties representing government bodies, suppliers, colleague of different agenda and background, difficult people - accountant, ego and sick personalities, and people who only promise but never deliver...
Roche (M) Sdn Bhd: Aug 1993 - Aug 2008, and Sep 2009 - Dec 2017
Product Specialist - Product manager - Sr Product Specialist - Senior Product Information Executive
My work experience was mostly in oncology (Cancer). I was promoting Avastin (bevacizumab), MabThera (rituximab) and Tarceva (erlotinib) in East Malaysia. Since 2001 until Dec, 2017 I have been taking care of Roche Haematology - Oncology businesses in this region.
Although I left Pharmaceuticals in Aug, 2017, I came back in Sep 2009. From then on I stayed until Dec, 2017 when the company reach a redundancy package for divisions which were found to face biosimilar threats. My departure in 2017 also enriched my experience in Real Estate and Construction. Through the exposure of sourcing for ICT in the new office, I was also influenced to assimilate IT into what I do in Real Estate.
I am philosophical at times, otherwise I am a fun loving person. I hope you could understand my mind by reading some of my writings. To potential employers, kindly contact me via my email at simyansun@hotmail.com and simyansun@gmail.com
