TESTIMONY

Hi, Rosnah,

AeU is pretty much a new thing to me. 'New' is the word to describe the reason why I signed up for AeU MICTM (Master's Degree in ICT Management). Below is my brief testimony.

ICT is ever changing, therefore, a key factor for the success in its delivery is 'enthusiasm'. A new organization, even with 'old' people should have new life with renewed energy! AeU is in this position, with some adjustment on its own.

For my programme - MICTM, it is essentially an ecosystem of its own - for once someone said: if you are looking for a training which lasts for a whole life, ICT is definitely not your cup of tea. For that, I would take a bet with AeU as ICT is very much independent of how old a university ought to be for peer review. MICT by AeU is particularly distinctive because it is a postgrad programme with ICT, not just IT. Therefore, the programme has a good start in its branding. It rides on the fact that communication technology is no doubt evolving to become an indispensable tool in our modern life. Furthermore, MICTM programme by AeU is a course work programme by e-learning, making my working life bearable with minimal disruption to my evening chores as parent and husband. For an adult student like me, it depends very much on own discipline and initiative rather than being spoon fed.

Amidst, it is too big a scope encompasses three areas of information system, communication and technology to be left to students to research, let alone a 2 years master's degree delivered over e-learning. A coursework approach would be more realistic based on this background of information. And, it is not necessarily a research postgrad degree would yield the spread of knowledge required by employers outside. Rather, the depth that is required in the specific field should be reserved at a higher level - PhD or MPhil. Hence, MICTM by AeU via coursework and project is the solution for the knowledge mix that is practical to work and industry at large.

Last but not least, it is inevitable that ICT is the most well developed programme in the e-learning delivery system as it is this ICT platform that enables other e-learning programmes. Thus, if there is a programme that could run successfully over the e-learning module, it has to be ICT core modules before other disciplines.

Otherwise, why spend the money?

Yours Sincerely,

THOMAS SIM YAN SUN
